Perfection and Reality: Everything in the physical world is imperfect and transient. For example, all beautiful things we see are imperfect reflections of a single perfect and unchanging "Form of Beauty." To attain true knowledge, one must grasp these universal and flawless Forms.
Immortal Soul: Plato believed that the soul is immortal and existed in the World of Forms before birth. The process of learning is essentially the "recollection" (anamnesis) of these Forms that the soul acquired in the past.
Knowledge and Virtue: True virtue (righteousness, justice, courage, etc.) is possible through the apprehension of the Forms. Ignorance is the source of evil. Philosophers, being able to perceive the Forms, are the most suitable individuals to govern the state.
